His time at RIT him 4 years of professional filmmaking experience from pre to post. In his sophomore year he was introduced to a Digital Color Correction course, which was eye-opening. He’s developed a love for color science and the imaging pipeline. With each project, he learns new techniques, develops an eye, and works faster.

“I came to film school with nothing. I wanted to touch everything until I settled into the right role. We started with directing, but to be a director was to understand cinematography, and to understand cinematography was to understand how lighting and camera worked, and to understand that was to understand color science. So, I became a colorist”

Alongside film, Ryan has worked in broadcasting for 3 years. Starting as a camera-op, then replay, his work as a colorist made him a reliable shader and lighting engineer. He is the Operations Manager for RIT SportsZone, the university’s private sports broadcasting organization. He is responsible for the hiring and training of student employees, supervising gear and setups during games.
